Abstract
This paper investigates the differences in speech acts on two well-known social media platforms, Twitter and Facebook. Using a content analysis of thousands of posts by male and female users, the study reveals differences in communication patterns: men tend to be more assertive in their speech acts, while women show more expressiveness. Additionally, an extensive literature review examines these findings in the context of an established theoretical framework. The findings reveal the significant influence of gender and cultural norms on communication in digital environments, emphasising the complexity of technology-mediated interaction in the context of postmodern hybridity. This study contributes to our understanding of how social media shapes gendered communication styles and the implications this has for online discourse.
