Abstract

This article examines the functions of discourse markers in academic speech from the perspectives of cognitive, pragmatic, and functional linguistics. Special attention is given to their role in ensuring cohesion, regulating interpersonal interaction, structuring information, and expressing modality. Examples from academic discourse, including presentations, lectures, scientific articles, and educational texts, are analyzed. The study is based on corpus data and theoretical models proposed by both Russian and international scholars.
