NEURAL MECHANISMS OF LANGUAGE SELECTION IN SUBCONSCIOUS THOUGHT: A COGNITIVE AND PSYCHOLINGUISTIC PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
This article examines neural and cognitive processes of unconscious language selection in multilingual and bilingual individuals. Drawing from a reading of literature available, evaluation of theoretical explanations, and submission of experimental designs, it is expected to illuminate the ways emotions, memories, environmental contexts, and situational situations intervene to influence the language selection by the brain where unconscious process is implicated as during dreaming, internal monologue, and involuntary response. The research examines how qualities like emotional appeal, linguistic dominance, and cultural connotation affect unconscious language use. The findings could have profound effects on education, cognitive therapy, treatment of mental illness, and an understanding of the adaptability and processing strategies of the bilingual and multilingual brain.
