ATOPIC DERMATITIS AND GASTROINTESTINAL DISORDERS IN CHILDREN
Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting 15-20% of children, often associated with gastrointestinal disorders such as food allergies and dysbiosis. This article explores the interplay between these conditions, highlighting the significant impact of gastrointestinal health on the manifestations and severity of atopic dermatitis. The relationship between food allergies and AD is prevalent, with studies indicating that 60-70% of children with AD also suffer from food allergies, while around 30% experience dysbiosis, which can exacerbate skin inflammation. Research suggests that probiotics may restore gut microbiota and reduce AD symptoms by 40-50%. Additionally, dietary modifications that eliminate allergenic foods can lead to improvements in up to 80% of affected children. Appropriate treatment strategies, including topical therapies and moisturizer use, alongside dietary management, are essential for improving the quality of life for affected individuals. Understanding the links between atopic dermatitis and gastrointestinal disorders is crucial for developing effective management protocols and enhancing child health outcomes.
