METHODS FOR THE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
Abstract
Relevance. Vitamin D plays an important role in calcium homeostasis and bone metabolism. Scientific knowledge about vitamin D evolved from its influence on calcium-phosphorus metabolism to the discovery of new receptor-mediated mechanisms of its action. Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency is currently considered a global problem not only because of its prevalence, but also due to the involvement of vitamin D in regulating the expression of genes associated with numerous physiological processes in the human body. There is a clear correlation between the body's vitamin D supply and the development of rickets in young children, impaired bone mineral density in adolescents and adults, as well as the risk of a number of chronic infectious and inflammatory diseases. In this regard, the diagnosis of vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency in children and adolescents and the organization of prevention and treatment of vitamin D-deficient conditions are particularly relevant.
