Abstract

Sports and physical activities have long been recognized for their benefits to physical health, but their impact on mental health is equally profound. This paper explores the relationship between sports and mental health, focusing on how participation in sports can reduce anxiety, depression, and stress while enhancing mood, self-esteem, and cognitive function. Through a detailed literature review and discussion, this article examines the psychological mechanisms underlying these benefits and highlights the role of community and competitive sports in fostering social connections. Additionally, the paper discusses barriers to participation and strategies for making sports accessible to individuals facing mental health challenges.
