DEATH PENALTY AS A MEASURE OF CRIMINAL PUNISHMENT

Abstract

This article examines the death penalty as the most severe of criminal penalties from a historical and legal perspective. The author analyzes the international and national practice of applying the death penalty, and also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of this punishment based on factors such as human rights and public opinion. The reasons for the abolition of the death penalty in the Republic of Uzbekistan and the prospects for its restoration are also discussed.
