THEMATIC COMPARISON OF UZBEK AND ENGLISH PROVERBS
Abstract
Proverbs are an important part of every nation’s culture and linguistic heritage. They reflect people’s wisdom, traditions, values, and worldview that have been formed throughout history. Uzbek and English proverbs contain rich cultural and moral meanings that are transmitted from generation to generation. This article presents a thematic comparison of Uzbek and English proverbs by analyzing their similarities and differences in themes such as hard work, friendship, family, knowledge, patience, and honesty. The study examines how proverbs express national identity and cultural characteristics while also revealing universal human values shared by different societies. Comparative analysis demonstrates that although Uzbek and English proverbs originate from different historical and cultural backgrounds, many of them convey similar moral lessons and life experiences. The article concludes that studying proverbs contributes to better understanding of language, culture, and intercultural communication.
