THE ROLE OF BRAINSTORMING AND MIND MAPPING IN ESSAY WRITING
Abstract
Essay writing is a demanding academic task that requires learners to generate ideas, organize information logically, and express thoughts clearly and coherently. Many students experience difficulties at the initial stages of writing, particularly during idea generation and planning. Brainstorming and mind mapping are widely recognized pre-writing strategies that support learners in overcoming these challenges. This article examines the role of brainstorming and mind mapping in essay writing, emphasizing their theoretical foundations, pedagogical value, and practical classroom applications. The study highlights how these strategies enhance creativity, critical thinking, coherence, and overall writing quality. The integration of brainstorming and mind mapping into writing instruction is presented as an effective approach to developing students’ academic writing competence.
