ONOMASTIKA NAZARIYASI VA UNING JAHON TILSHUNOSLIGIDA O‘RGANILISHI
Abstract
This article explores the essence, research object, and main directions of the science of onomastics. Onomastics is defined as a branch of linguistics that studies proper names — their origin, formation, meaning, and usage in speech. The paper analyzes key branches such as anthroponymy, toponymy, theonymy, zoonymy, and cosmonymy, emphasizing their linguistic and cultural significance. It also discusses the distinction between theoretical and practical onomastics, as well as the research methods applied in this field. The historical development of onomastic studies, from ancient Greek philosophers to modern linguists, is also briefly reviewed.
