Abstract

Proverbs, as concise expressions of popular wisdom, serve as a mirror to a nation's soul, reflecting its core values, social structures, and collective mentality. This article provides a comparative linguocultural analysis of the concept of "family" (oila / la famille) as represented in Uzbek and French proverbs. By examining paremiological units related to parents, children, marriage, and kinship, this study aims to identify the convergences and divergences in the traditional understanding of family in these two distinct cultures. The analysis reveals that while both cultures highly value the family unit, Uzbek proverbs emphasize collectivism, respect for elders, and the importance of lineage, whereas French proverbs often reflect a greater emphasis on the nuclear family, individual responsibility, and pragmatic marital relationships. These distinctions offer profound insights into the underlying cultural mentalities shaped by historical, social, and philosophical traditions.
