LINGUOCULTURAL BARRIERS IN INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION: CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS

Abstract

Linguacultural barriers represent a major challenge in the context of globalized communication. This paper investigates the key causes of linguacultural misunderstandings and identifies effective strategies for overcoming them. Based on a mixed-methods study involving 240 participants from six countries, we analyze how language use, cultural norms, and conceptual frameworks affect communication across cultures. The findings highlight that lack of pragmatic awareness, culturally loaded vocabulary, and ethnocentric assumptions are among the most frequent sources of misunderstanding. The study proposes a combination of intercultural competence training, cultural mediation, and awareness-based instruction as effective solutions. The results offer actionable insights for educators, international businesses, and policymakers.
