SEMANTIC-PRAGMATIC FEATURES OF PROMISING SPEECH IN MODERN ENGLISH
Abstract
Since the emergence of speech act theory, within the framework of which the phenomenon of intentionality of speech behavior was first considered, and the term "speech intention", being borrowed from the field of philosophy, has firmly established itself in linguistic science, the problem of studying this phenomenon has not lost its relevance. At this stage, scientists are actively studying and analyzing the means of linguistic nomination of various intentional states in the system of natural and artificial languages, and the phenomenon of speech intention itself is one of the objects of study of two main linguistic trends dealing with the problems of intentionality of speech: speech act theory and relevance theory. Recently, the interest of linguists in the phenomenon of speech intention has increased, and, in particular, in the ways of expressing certain types of speech intention at the superficial level. This article is devoted to the study of the history of the concept of speech intention as applied to participants in verbal interaction. The article gives a detailed functional-pragmatic analysis of speech act "рromise", which includes the review of the semantic and pragmatic rules, following which is the guarantee of the successful realization of the speech act. Some aspects of national-cultural specifics of this act are reviewed.
