Abstract

This study explores the compliment and complaint strategies employed by speakers of American English and Russian within the framework of cross-cultural pragmatics. Through a comparative analysis of existing literature, the research highlights the cultural nuances that influence these speech acts, emphasizing their roles in interpersonal communication. Key findings reveal distinct strategies shaped by cultural values, such as individualism in American contexts and modesty in Russian interactions. The study aims to enhance understanding of these communicative behaviors, thereby contributing to the fields of linguistics and intercultural communication.
