IMPROVEMENT OF ALGORITHMS FOR DETERMINING THE OPTIMAL TREATMENT STRATEGY FOR KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS
Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative joint disease associated with significant medical and social challenges. This article provides a detailed analysis of current treatment strategies for OA based on the guidelines of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR), the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI), and the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO). Both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches are discussed, including Symptomatic Slow-Acting Drugs for Osteoarthritis (SYSADOA), paracetamol, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid and glucocorticoids. Particular attention is paid to the safety and efficacy of these methods. The article highlights the insufficient integration of non-pharmacological interventions into routine clinical practice and proposes strategies for improving their implementation. Total knee arthroplasty is recommended for patients with end-stage OA. A stepwise treatment algorithm is presented to enhance clinical outcomes and improve patients' quality of life.
