Abstract
Uzbekistan is undergoing a transformative shift towards green energy and sustainable development in response to global climate change challenges. This article explores the country’s legislative framework addressing renewable energy and climate change, with a focus on the Law on Renewable Energy Sources (2019) and the National Strategy for Climate Change (2021). It highlights Uzbekistan’s ambitious goals to increase renewable energy production to 25% by 2030 and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. The article also examines the critical role of the Law on Energy Efficiency (2020) in promoting energy-saving technologies and reducing energy consumption across sectors. While the legislative advancements signal a commitment to environmental protection, the article identifies key challenges, including infrastructure modernization, financial barriers, and enforcement gaps. Ultimately, it underscores Uzbekistan’s potential to become a leader in green energy within Central Asia by leveraging its abundant solar and wind resources, fostering international collaboration, and enhancing policy implementation.
