DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA ABBREVIATIONS IN ENGLISH
Abstract
This article discusses a methodological approach to enhancing students’ reading comprehension skills through the interpretation of English social abbreviations such as "LOL", "BRB", "IMO", and many others. In the digital age, social media and informal communication have introduced a wide range of abbreviations into the English language. These abbreviations, often used in text messaging, online chats, and social networks, pose both challenges and opportunities for language learners. The integration of such content into the ESL/EFL curriculum can make learning more engaging, relevant, and effective.
