CHALLENGES IN THE GENERAL LINGUISTIC THEORY OF ONOMATOPOEIA AS A UNIVERSAL PHENOMENON IN LANGUAGE

Abstract

Language, as the most advanced means of communication, directly and indirectly reflects all entities (objects, individuals, relationships, actions, states, processes, qualities, quantities, levels, methods, and natural sounds associated with emotions such as screams, shouts, exclamations, calls, applause, surprise, passions, knocks, anxieties, sufferings, falls, and other cognitive phenomena exemplified in Russian by expressions like ля-ля-ля, бла-бла-бла, апчхи, as well as animal sounds such as мяу-мяу, гав-гав, му-му, хрю-хрю, ква-ква, ку-ка-ре-ку, кря-кря, чик-чирик, кар-кар, etc. This function facilitates effective communication in the daily lives of language users. Such cognitive phenomena can be categorically termed 'onomatopoeias,' while the linguistic means that express them can be referred to as 'onomatopemes,' with their manifestations in speech identified as 'onomatops.
