Abstract

This article examines the multifaceted nature of speaking skills as a core component of language proficiency. Drawing on theoretical frameworks from cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics, and communication studies, the paper emphasizes the integration of linguistic competence, communicative competence, and phonological processing. It discusses the preparatory cognitive processes involved in speech planning, the organization of lexical and grammatical information, and the execution of accurate phonetic articulation. The article also reviews both segmental and suprasegmental approaches in fostering fluency and meaningful expression. Implications for language teaching strategies and curriculum design are highlighted, offering a comprehensive framework for developing effective speaking skills.
