Abstract

The effects of bilingual schooling on cognition and academic performance have been extensively examined.  This essay critically investigates the ways in which bilingualism affects academic achievement across a range of topics as well as cognitive abilities including working memory, executive control, and problem-solving.  In order to evaluate the cognitive flexibility and academic performance of bilingual and monolingual pupils, the study uses a novel experimental approach.  According to the research, bilingual education improves metalinguistic awareness and cognitive skills, which in turn improves problem-solving and flexibility.  Disparities in educational resources and language barriers, however, continue to be problems.  This study аdds to the continuing discussion on hоw to best use bilinguаl education to promote acаdemic and cognitive аchievement.
