THE IMPACT OF LEARNING STYLES ON MEMORY AND INFORMATION RETENTION.
Abstract
Learning styles significantly influence how individuals process, retain, and recall information, shaping their ability to absorb and understand knowledge. This article examines the key learning styles—visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic—and their effects on comprehension and academic achievement. Research indicates that presenting information in alignment with an individual's preferred learning style enhances retention and engagement. Studies by Kazu (2009), Newton (2015), and Vaishnav (2013) highlight the benefits of tailored teaching methods. However, emerging evidence suggests that a multimodal approach, integrating multiple learning styles, is more effective than relying on a single method. By combining strategies such as visual aids, group discussions, note-taking, and hands-on activities, learners can improve memory retention. Furthermore, factors like motivation, metacognition, and active participation contribute to stronger learning outcomes. This study emphasizes the importance of adaptive educational techniques in boosting retention and academic performance.
