Abstract

This article examines Geoffrey Chaucer's significant influence on the development of the English novel. As a pioneering figure in English literature, Chaucer's works, particularly The Canterbury Tales, established narrative techniques, character development, and social commentary that would later shape the English novel. This article analyzes Chaucer’s thematic and stylistic contributions to literature, emphasizing how they paved the way for future novelists. A literature review highlights the scholarly discourse surrounding Chaucer's role in literary history, followed by a discussion of methods used to analyze Chaucer's texts. The results section outlines the key findings regarding Chaucer's impact, and the discussion connects these findings to the broader context of literary evolution. The conclusion synthesizes the insights gained from this study and suggests areas for further research into Chaucer’s legacy.
