PERIODONTIUM AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES: PREVALENCE, ETIOLOGY, AND PATHOGENESIS
Abstract
The issue of high prevalence and treatment demand for periodontal diseases remains one of the top priorities in contemporary dental practice. According to WHO data, between 80% and 100% of the population across various age groups experience some form of periodontal pathology. This condition leads to significant alterations in the dentoalveolar system, adversely affects digestive processes, contributes to a decline in the body’s resistance, negatively impacts the patient's psycho-emotional state, and consequently reduces quality of life, underscoring the social importance of the problem (Dmitrieva L.A., 2007; Orekhova L.Yu. et al., 2009; Grudyanov A.I., 2009; Linnik L.N., 2010; Sokolova I.I., Saveleva N.N., 2013; Plessas A., 2014; Bissong M., Azodo C.C., Agbor M.A. et al., 2015).
